For friends who are new to IChing Fengshui Principles, let me offer a brief explanation about it.

IChing Fengshui applies time-tested knowledge of Yin and Yang energies to our living environments, which can create either supportive or challenging influences in our lives.

Fengshui 风水, also known as Chinese geomancy, is an established traditional practice from ancient China. It harnesses external energy to help individuals achieve harmony with their immediate surroundings.

For example, if you have a friend living near a mini power station and exposed electrical cables, the external environment is generally considered as Inauspicious. Your friend may be suffering quietly.

However, if your colleague’s home has a community centre/ school/ hospital located in the Southwest direction, your colleague is likely to do well in his career and especially prosperous in the Chinese Zodiac Monkey years.

In Fengshui, such external conditions expose the property to Negative/ Positive energies, commonly referred to as Sha Qi 煞气 or Auspicious Qi 贵气.

In short, Auspicious external environment Fengshui/ landforms plays an essential role in helping to bring about benefactor support 贵人, manifesting wealth opportunities 财富, great career prospects 事业发展, family harmony 家庭和谐 and good health 健康.

Naturally, the internal Fengshui of the home unit is important as well. Odd shape floor plans are highly discouraged in any circumstances, even if the external environment is favourable. A home floor area with “missing area(s)” is Inauspicious because a missing area (for example the Southwest sector of a home unit) could mean that a certain member of the household would have adverse issues like poor health or poor wealth and relationship luck, etc.

In essence, both the external and internal Fengshui attributes of the house HAVE TO BE in harmony with its immediate environment in order to justify the tag of an “Above Average Fengshui Quality” residential dwelling.

For the purpose of this article, I shall touch on how and why the external environment adjacent to Upperhouse at Orchard Boulevard is so Auspicious.

I am getting more excited (because of the beautiful external environment) just by looking at her location!

Let’s take a look at Upperhouse Condominium’s immediate surroundings.

From the centre of Upperhouse Condominium’s location, there are 4 embassies nearby in her exact Northwest direction and a Camden Medical Centre in the North/ Northeast directions.

These institutions/ establishments are the primary reasons that Upperhouse is an “Above Average Fengshui Quality” residential dwelling.

Why?

In IChing Fengshui, the Northwest direction is recognised as 乾卦. One of the meanings of 乾卦 represents noble-people, leaders and high political ranking officers. The man of the house. High status and authority. The respected elderly male. And of course, financially well-to-do. It is also recognised as Metal element in Fengshui.

Now there are at least 4 major embassies within the Northwest direction to Upperhouse. And because there will be high ranking political officers within these embassies, Upperhouse Condominium’s Northwest sector has been ‘activated’. More correctly, it is ‘activated’ favourably because there are actual high ranking political officers within the Northwest direction of Upperhouse. In Fengshui terminology, this is known as ‘Prosperity due to Peers’ 比旺.

It can potentially mean that quite a number of residents in Upperhouse Condominium are likely to do well in their respective careers, as long as the internal Fengshui of the unit (the floor plan and the floor level) is optimally aligned with this Northwest direction.

Next, the presence of Camden Medical Centre in the North/ Northeast direction of Upperhouse.

All medical institutions like hospitals, polyclinics and medical centres are largely identified as Fire element in Fengshui. This is so because of blood related medical activities. The North direction 坎卦 is forever known also as Water element and the Northeast direction 艮卦 is forever known as Earth element in IChing Fengshui terminology.

When Water (direction) is countering Fire (establishment), it is known as ‘Creating Wealth Abilities’ or 克出为财.

When Fire (establishment) is producing Earth (direction), it is known as nurturing or 生扶为印.

Therefore, I would see Camden Medical Centre location as a critical Auspicious external establishment because it promotes ‘Wealth Creation Abilities’ ie Platform Assistance 平台关照 and Helper’s Luck 帮手运 in IChing Fengshui principles.

But then..

The internal Fengshui matters as well. The shape of the floor plan and the unit level are important as well. Even though the external environment is largely Auspicious 吉, ‘Inappropriate’ floor plan shapes and ‘Inauspicious’ unit floor level would ‘discount’ all Auspicious external Fengshui benefits.

Simply;

a) When both internal and external Fengshui are Auspicious; 吉中有吉

or

b) Internally Inauspicious but externally Fengshui Auspicious; 凶中有吉

And oh yes.. I would need to share with you on the new condominium launches price trends (PSF) islandwide since 2005 till date.

The price gap between Core Central Region (CCR) and Rest of Central Region (RCR) has narrowed significantly. As at 4th July 2025, the average transacted Median PSF for CCR is S$2,948; whereas RCR is S$2,750. The difference is only S$198.

Questions for you:

  1. Do you think RCR PSF prices will outpace CCR in the medium (3-5 years) and longer term (>10years)?
    <Hint: look at the notable gaps especially in years 2007, 2009, 2018 and 2019>
  2. If you say no to question 1, is it cheap to buy CCR new condominiums, now?
  3. As Singapore’s population is projected to increase towards 6.9M by 2030, are residential property prices very likely to trend up or down?
  4. 4) Is it more expensive to buy now or later?
    <Hint: as the person ages, the loan quantum and tenure are shorter>
  5. Most importantly, do you wish to hedge your wealth efficiently against inflation with quality property investment advices?
